Founded as Mission Information Resources (MIR) in 2004, our Scout Swimmer poured years into research, patenting a material and process that could handle the chaos of small-unit leadership. By the 2010s, THULS had formalized its place in the U.S. military: the Marine Corps issued thousands of customized handbooks to infantry leaders. The Army followed suit with Ranger School modules and reference cards, while the Department of Energy adopted them for nuclear security teams.
MIR partnered with the mouth breathers at Battle Board and expanded the reference book line into a new world of modular systems and civilian books. The ultimate goal of the partnership: making THULS not just a tactical essential, but also a staple for adventurous jaunts in the deserts, jungles, and mountains around the world. The collaboration didn’t just expand the lineup; it increased the durability and intuitive use of an already tough and thorough system. The specializations of both companies transformed the process of recording and organizing information into pocket-sized systems that speed up the decision-making process and ultimately saves lives. Keeping critical information accessible when seconds count remains every leader’s challenge.
The last few years of the THULS and Battle Board partnership helped produce the next evolution of information management. STāNOTE (think: "notes staying put") combines the durability of the THULS brand with the permanency of paper. While THULS are meant to preserve knowledge for eternity and provide a rewritable platform for templates, STāNOTE Sheets and STāNOTE Books offer printed templates and blank sheets with the same modularity that made THULS famous. STāNOTE provides truly waterproof paper in blank, dot, lined, grid, or templated sheets, perfect for any harsh environment. Hikers, hunters, and overlanders discover it daily through word-of-mouth in outdoor forums and gear shops: imagine jotting trail coordinates on a storm-lashed summit, sketching a fishing spot without the page disintegrating, or mapping a backcountry route that survives a river ford. Battle Board, MIR's key collaborator, leaned into this crossover with products like the Battle Board Micro, Field Folders, Scouts, and new ring binders, positioning STāNOTE as "the loose-leaf paper slayer" for civilians facing Mother Nature's worst.
Today, THULS and STāNOTE embody the garage-born grit: from classified briefs in forward operating bases to family camping trips surprised by relentless downpours. It's proof that the toughest innovations aren't confined to drowning in the sea—they're for anyone who refuses to let the elements erase their story. As the inventor might say, "make it Marine Proof." Whether you're raiding a mountain compound or chasing a ridgeline view, THULS and STāNOTE ensure your notes endure.
